i have a force 90hp, when i turn the key i am only getting spark maybe once every 6 or 7 try's.

It is like that on all 3 cylinders. I replaced all the plugs and wires and still have the same problem.

any ideas?

Check your ground wires to see if they have a good connection.

Yes check yr ground wires coming from your cd boxes. Should be three of them. Also look at your power strips and look for any loose or broken wires. Over time the wires can break under the insulation right up against the but connectors. If you are able to run your motor and carefully move each one that will help to locate a short if any. Carefull of the spinning fly wheel though. I just replaced a trigger
on my 125force outboard because the wires coming out of the base had a short.
and no sorry that wasn't a cheap fix in case you were wondering. Hope this helps and good luck. Let us know if you fix your prob.

90 what year? Serial# Model# They changed a bunch in the last years.
Older 90, check the magnet under the flywheel.Possible the flywheel key is sheared.
Check the wiring under the flywheel and see if there is a short.
Profile?? You might be close to someone who can help.J

AS its affecting all three cylinders then its a common problem ...like supply /ground issues so check voltages to the cdi unit from the actual cdi ground to the live supply ...Make sure you have full voltage ie 12v

Force l-drive 90LD90A 1990.... Although a newer ignition system was installed. Has dark blue ignition coils. Has a 6 magnet flywheel (with only 5 of the magnets on it)

It is raining today all day so i wont be able to get out there with volt meter today.

Another thing.... Now that u guys keep mentioning about having a good ground.... When unscrewed my negative lead to my battery yesterday, the negative terminal was extremely hot.... I could not hold the wing nut for 2 second when taking the cable off the terminal it was so hot.

Sounds like a bad battery, dead cell or dry cells. Remove battery and get a load test done.
Could also be that your getting positive feed back through yr ground, but that could only happen if some of
your wires are in the wrong order. Excessive cranking or starting will also heat the battery
connections and could damage the starter. Over charging may be the cause as well. Take another
look at the rect. and make sure your wires are in the right order and check for bad grounds
throughout the entire area frm battery to motor. I,m sire that there are others that will chime in
with some good ideas as well.

Basically i have a flywheel that has had all the magnets glued back on. The guy i got it from said it really only needs one of the magnets and rest are there for balance. So there were 5 magnets glued back on and spaced out evenly around the radius.

Is not having the full 6 magnets a problem?
