I can not find the spark plugs to change them. Boat won't turn over,been sitting for a couple years.Positive battery cable starts to smoke.I removed distributor cap and traced wires but can not see plugs. Manual does show where

One end of a spark plug wire is hooked to the distributor cap, the other end is hooked to the spark plug.
If you can't find the spark plug, then what is the end of the wire not hooked to the distributor cap hooked to ?

Have you ever worked on an engine before? Do you know what a spark plug looks like?

The plugs are up under the exhaust manifold - may be hard to see and access depending upon your boat configuration.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I'm with Don,... We're gonna have to know 'bout what yer Experience level is,...

So,.. How Handy are ya, 'n what do ya have for Tools,....

Even though the spark plugs are on the other end of the wires comin' outa the distributor cap,...
That don't mean yer boat builder even intended for ya to get Anywhere near 'em...

There are hulls out there that Require pullin' the motor, Outa the hull, to change the spark plugs....

I like a good joke too.If the plugs were visible I would have changed them I would not be asking the question.The distributor wires run under the engine and so thanks I thought that was where they were.

No, the spark plug leads run under the manifolds....

What is your experience with a) marine engines, b) automotive engines?

I have owned a chaparral 170hp,this is a Maxum 230 hp V8 1989 . Excellent The pic looks like my engine,yes under not above as in every other engine I have dealt with with over 40 yrs. I do what I can and if I can not I take to someone who can. thanks .

Well since it was either become an acrobat to change the plugs OR so I added new gas and gas treatment,charged new battery. Vaboom engine turned over-every time. I will get plugs out eventually.thanks for the insight.
