spark problems- 89 200xp

I have an 89 200xp evinrude motor that is having spark issues. The spark is intermittent and not very strong. The best I have done is to get 4 of the 6 working at one time. Sometimes none of them will spark, then the next time 1 will. I checked all the wiring and connections and everything seems fine. Also tried new coils. I am thinking stator problem, but thought I would seek advice before I start spending big bucks on this motor. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Stator or pack. If you have a manual, run the tests on both.

often you can see the stator going south, the epoxy glaze melts from the wires and drips down over the head, look under the flywheel with a flashlight.

Thanks guys, I did find that glaze around the wiring at the stator. I replaced the stator, still no signs of spark. Sounds like maybe the pack now. What do ya think?

Don't get the factory service book for $40

and don't buy a $60 peak reading meter off ebay to test components.
