Hi, I have a Volvo penta 2.3 went to put my boat in the water last week and it wouldn't start. After checking some things I discovered no spark. I have narrowed the problem to the distributer. I'm getting spark from coil to cap put I got nothing coming out. The cap is new three weeks ago. It had ran great till last weekend I cleaned the button with sand paper still nothing. Could this possibly have something to do with points and if so how do I find out and fix it! Please help the season is almost over and I would love to be able to go on the water a last few times! Thanks!

How do you know you have spark..how did you test it.
If the voltage cannot find a way out, it's plug gap way too large or very bad plug wires.
If cap is too old, the spark may be tracking the plastic to ground either inside or outside the cap.
If the wrong rotor is installed, the button may not touch it, or the rotor end is too short to reach the 4 plug tabs inside the cap.

Try cranking it over in pitch dark and see where the spark is going.
