I just checked with my pop, his merc is a '67, 95hp. he never had the plugs out. Seriously, I took them out and wire wheeled them, then to test them I stuck them in my bike and turned it over (do not use the boat motor to check for spark!!!), using a LONG dowel to hold it against the block of the bike, darn near shaved my leg with the lightening coming off them. So, if they do not look burnt, after cleaning, as the old saying goes" if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
