I need a screwdriver with some leverage to remove engine bolts. I cannot seem to search for the right type of screwdriver online. What is this? Thanks very much?

It is called a Brace (bit brace)

It's called a speed wrench as shown here.

It's only good to quickly drive fasteners in or out, but not for breaking loose or tightening. They don;t have much leverage.

We posted at the same time. The brace is for drilling. It might work. I know the speed wrench does the trick.

That is commonly called a speed wrench. Sears Craftsman 9_44271 for 3/8" drive. But, hey what you want is a hand impact screwdriver. No self respecting outboard mechanic would dare be without one. It has a cam inside that rotates the bit when you whack it with a hammer. Greatest thing since sliced bread.

Lets add one more - A Yankee-style Screwdriver & Hex Driving Chuck from here.

Also jb93 - What exactly are the screws you're working on?

Thanks everyone for the quick replies and alternatives. I am actually just putting together a tool set to get me started on restoring my first outboard - a late 50s Johnson 10hp. Not a total restore for appearance - just running condition for use. I am supposed to pick it up within next week or so provided compression checks out ok.

I would use an impact driver with the proper screwdriver tip.

Agreed. More leverage put onto a siezed bolt is just going to snap the head's. The impact driver is what you want for this.

Without a doubt the impact driver, the one you hit with a hammer is a must in every toolbox, it will remove even the most stubborn screws/ bolts without braking or striping

Second that, wish I had gotten one years earlier.
