specific carburetor opertion question

I'm trying to figure out if my throttle is working properly before I go and clean the carb.

The issue is that when I give the motor throttle, it starts to go but at about 1/4 the way up the throttle, the motor doesn't go any faster even when I pull the throttle all the way.

While inspecting the throttle and carburetor, I can see that when I pull the throttle, the cable pulls on the throttle shaft which is connected to the carburetor. This seems to be working fine. But, I notice that there is a "Link" that is connected to the throttle shaft. This link is also connected to the Bellcrank which moves the choke valve thing. Anyway, when I pull the throttle, is the link supposed to move with the throttle shaft and move the Belllcrank as more throttle is given? Currently, when I pull the throttle, the throttle shaft just slides on this Link, and therefore the link doesn't move the bellcrank at all. If this is how it's supposed to work, then I don't see the purpose of this Link.

If you look at this diagram, I am referring to parts 12, 54, and 14.

If someone could tell me if the bellcrank should be moving that would be great. Thanks!

Sorry, I guess you have to go to the top left and find the 1974 johnson 25hp, then the 25R74M model, and the carburetor. I can't get the link to work.

I guess you have written a well detailed description of the setup, but unfortunatly, I don't follow you. For starters, what are we working on here?

A generic answer concerning any link between the throttle and choke is that when you pull the choke knob, the link kicks the throttle butterfly open a bit for easier starting. When the choke is pushed in for running, the link no longer does anything.

I don't know if that answers your question.

F R, I think you have answered my question. When looking at it, I can't see how the link does anything, but I didn't try pushing in the choke and watching what the link does.

Thanks
