Specific Style of Handrails?

Two part question. Part one, anyone know where I can get this style of handrail. The closer the match, the better. I'm missing a short section. Plus another piece has a big dent in the tubing. Also, part two of this question.

OK so my second question is, what are your opinions on using two sections of this same style rail, and screwing them right into my floor (with plenty of 5200). One 18" or so piece next to my gas tank, to prevent it from sliding into the bilge. It does this a lot while driving, and in really rough seas it moves around a bit too. And then another piece, maybe 24" or so, going side to side, to prevent things from rolling into the bilge. Every time i gun my little boat, everyone's things go flying into the back. Plus I think rails like this underneath would look kinda sharp. This is the best picture I have of my "engine room". The battery has been strapped to cleats attatched to the floor. So I'd put one on the left side of the tank to keep it under control. Then another left to right, right about where the floor gets covered by the upper piece of fiberglass. Thoughts?

It will require some hunting but the hardware is available and then you bend your own tubing. The secret is to fill the tube with sand before you bend it so it will not kink.

First off, what exactly is missing? Is it the part in the center of the bow? Do you really need railing there? It's probably a whole lot easier to board when trailering with that gap there. Maybe finish the cut ends of the tubes with bimini end eyes?

Assuming I'm off-target with the above...what is it exactly you are needing, just more tubing, or more of those stanchions? If stanchions; question: do you really need those handrails in the rear? Maybe pirate some of the stanchions from there.

As for the idea of screwing railings on your deck in the stern; I would not do that, seems to me that would create a major hook-your-toes-and-trip hazard. If the fuel tank slides around, get a strap-down kit with footman's loops to screw to the deck, or lay down some non-skid grip tape. Or maybe glass down a strip of wood.

If people's stuff is flying around, they (you) really need to find a better way to stow or secure the stuff. Meanwhile, maybe make some kind of vinyl curtain to hang between the stern-cap and the deck, secured at the top with either snaps or screws/throughbolts, and to the deck (or gunwales) with either snaps, velcro, or shockcord and plastic hooks.

The missing piece on on the back. It's one of the two pieces that does along side where the ladder should be. I'd also like to replace the ladder at some point too. The dented piece is one of the two curved piece on the bow. When boarding the boat, I just step on the fender on the trailer, and step over the back. As far as toe catching, these 'floor rails' would be underneath the... I don't know what to call it, cover? I don't think it would be a tow catching issue at all. As far as stowing stuff, the boat is really small. Space is VERY limited. Basically there's a small glove box and thats it. Everything else goes on seats and works its way to the floor, and then back towards the bilge. The battery has a strap and it works well but luckily you don't have to remove the strap often because it's really a pain. I have to take out the gas tank to fill it every time I go out. Thats why I'd rather just put some kind of rail next to it. With nothing in front, I can still grab it and pull it out no problem.

Yep, that is how its done. Get a simple conduit bender, fill the stainless tubing with sand, close off the ends with duct tape, and bend away.

The railing hardware is available, just have to keep looking for it.

Hmm, still having trouble picturing the missing rail and how it ties into the swim(?) ladder...more description please?

You pack the tube with sand so that there is resistance inside and the tube doesn't kink or crease inward at the bend. You're going to need one hell of an apparatus to do good bends in 7/8" (?) stainless tubing; might want to consider aluminum tube or hiring that job out.

For the gas tank strap (or battery box strap, for that matter), you could do away with the buckles and sew velcro onto the strap instead. Voila, good hold and easy removal  Hell, I'm going to do that 'cause I hate those g*dd**n buckles, thanks for the inspiration for a lightbulb moment!

You have to Secure the fuel tank m8..

I know its a PITA sometimes..but you just have to.

Look into nylon straps and buy some quick detatch buckles ( those buckles on your life vest things ).

YD.

PS. I sure hope there is a more heavy wire for your starter that your showing with your pics ( red and ground ).

Those wires are for the LED lights, not the engine :) They're wicked overkill, not wicked underkill. aaaaaand this whole thread is about securing the fuel tank...

Re: Specific Style of Handrails?

The other day I had to remove my battery to get under there, and it took over an hour to undo that crazy strap buckle thing. I'm all about velcro. Does anyone sell these straps with the velcro already part of it? I've never sewed before and I'd rather not use a very heavy boat battery to test what will be my brand new sewing skills :)
