Anybody out there had em, I just got one used a 1989 and it looks like it is new! I was just wondering how they stack up in the "well built" department. This boat is a 1606 deep V and up in the bow area where one would mount a t/m it is just light metal with a small backing piece of wood just where the existing t/m is, and when I say light I mean way light like 28 ga.I was gonna stick a different troller on there but i don't know now. I am wondering just how well the boat is made.

thnx
mark

Re: spectrum boats

I am not real familiar with the early models, like yours. But I am pleased with mine. It is built a little on the economy side of things, and is about average in construction. Not Lund or Alumacraft quality, but decent.

I guess if you think it is too flimsy to mount the troller, you could replace or reinforce the mounting plate.

What have you got for a motor on that boat?

Here is a posting that will give you a little info on the boat:

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005234#000000

Re: spectrum boats

thnx roscoe!
what yr. is yours? this btw has a force 50. getting back to the the troller mounting i don't know if i have the same model as you , mine is a side console it looks like thishttp://www.blackhawkmarineboats.com/PICS/P89Spectrum2.JPG
this boats has a large storage area in front that if you stick your head in there you can see the bottom side if the bow deck where the troller is mounted now. it really looks like it is thin metal with a backing piece of wood just under where the existing troller is mounted ,I wanted to mount a quick mount bracket for power drive on there but i don't see how i can reach up in there quite far enuff to put in more wood or tighten up any bolts I might have to. Any Ideas?

thnx
mark

Re: spectrum boats

Mine is a 1995 Spectrum Avenger sc, with a '95 70hp Force, with a welded hull, kind of a cheaper version of the Fisher Marine design.

Yours looks to be the Blue Fin design. I have heard these are decent boats and handle rough water fairly well. Very solid. I have seen boats like this with the thin aluminum over the wood.

Mine looks like this, but only a 16' model, with a slightly taller windshield:

http://www.boat-world.com/displaypic.php?ID=623106248&picno=1

http://www.boat-world.com/displaypic.php?ID=623106248&picno=6

I don't know what to suggest for the troller. Kind of hard without seeing it. I guess I would think about adding a metal or wood platform over the top of the existing one. Attaching it at the bow and on both sides of it, to distribute the load. Maybe take the opportunity to make another enclosed storage area while I am at it.

Is that your actual boat, or just one that looks like it?
It looks to be in nice shape.
How does the 50hp motor work?
