Just how accurate are the pickup tubes located on the lower units? In comparisson the electronic unit I have displays a HUGE difference when comparing the two. I know get a GPS and check it out. Just thought someone has done the research on this and would supply what they found out. Oh by the way the engine I have is a 150 Merc.

Re: Speed Accuracy

The "normal" old fashion boat speedometer works on water pressure. Some of the electronic fish finders work from a tiny spinning wheel. Neither device is foolproff due to the mounting, the boats transom and type of water (rough/calm) passing the pick up units. In theory both units will be accurate within a specific range and the "inarcurate" readings will increase with speed.

Yes, I too agree go with the GPS. Some of the better fishfinders have them built in but a handheld seems more versital (car, boat, hiking, hunting, fishing and so on...)

Bob
