i have a 1995 merc 4.3lx 4bl v6 engine and would like to get more speed and power out of it. i would like to put a upgrade cam in it but don't know where to buy one or the brand name and part number for it. also i was told i could rejet the carb with a carb retro kit. i have changed the prop using a 19" pitch have hit a speed around 47-50 mph. any help with the name and part numbers would be helpful and any other ideas also
thanks guy's!

Re: speed/power

You've already got a 4 bl carb so a new cam isn't going to make that much difference, maybe fuel injection could get you a few more mph but it would be expensive. I think at this point to get any real increase that you could notice you need a bigger engine.

RPM=speed want a race boat buy one. 50 mph you cant see the girls properly! just put a 5.7 with paxton super charger on it then you will just have steering issues.

Re: speed/power

You can through as much HP as you want at the boat and you will find that the speed is a factor of hull design. We have done testing with V6 andVa8 power plants in the same design hull, only to find that the V6 is very close to the V8. Infact it certain situations the V^ performed better.

Prop pitch changes will either create better acceleration or better top end, not both.

For a tech booklet on Boat Balance and performance contact info@Nauticusinc.com

Sounds as if it's time to go boat shopping! :D

Seriously though, you failed to mention what kind of boat your motor was attached to. As stated before, hull design is a critical factor. One possibility would be to go with a 21 or possibly a 23 pitch prop. Before recommending that, however, we would have to know how many RPMs @ WOT yur getting on your 19. With a 21 you'd most likely gain a little top end, but in trade you will loose a little of your bottom or hole shot. Good Luck!
