Speed Sensor Not Working

I have an Eagle Ultra Classic fishfinder with a speed/temp sensor wheel. When out of water the speed sensor works just fine. It spins freely and registers the speed when you spin it. It is mounted as intructed flush with the bottom of the boat in a place, not next to any ribs, that is in contact with the water all the time. When moving at slow speeds it registers inconsistantly but at high speeds it usually registers 0 mph. I can't figure out why it isn't functioning properly. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Speed Sensor Not Working

I have heard of the same problem with this type of sensor and we even tried to test this with a hose directing water at the sensor wheel, this checked out okay, but in the water we had the same problem, eventually we changed the unit for a new one set it up again and guese what it worked. In our case it was the sensor, also have some body have a look at the sensor while the boat is in motion and check that the sensor is actuallly in the water at cruising speed.( in other words a steady flow of water over the sensor wheel.<br />Bye Willie
