I have an old water pressure speedo on my boat, and judging by my GPS it's about 15mph off. Is there any way for me to adjust that? I don't think it will ever be very accurate...but 15mph off is pretty bad...

Is it reading 15 mph slower? If so perhaps your speedo pickup is shot. Take a look at it, is the very tip of the thing cracked? Maybe it's time to reaplace the pickup..

Scott..

No...it's 15mph too fast. Also it looks to be in fine condition, other than being old...

Re: Speedo adjustment?

Good Luck ZmOz, I clean mine out my pickup every time I come home. One time I checked it against my Radar, and it was pretty accurate. Not 10 minutes after checking it, the thing gets stuck at 22 mph. It gets stuck every trip. Most of my boating friends say I'm lucky, their either don't work, or they are not accurate. I just got used to checking my RPM settings with my Radar, and know about what I'm traveling. Now I just take bets at how long before the speeometer gets stuck again. :D

Re: Speedo adjustment?

ZmOz
To answer your basic question: Yes there is a instrument to calibrate your speedo! The problem being is that most air speedo's are only accurate from the 50% and above. IE if the speedo is 0-60 anything under 30 MPH cant be trusted.. if it's 0-30 anything under 15MPH cant be trusted.. add into that what GodsBeast said and you have a real problem. Played with that back in the 80's.. I'd say go with the GPS! Even though I've played with one

Link

GPS - no other way to go. Speedos today are only needed to fill that big darn hole in the dash ;)
