My original question was what the small tube in this picture is (Upper right-hand corner). I have the same thing coming out of my lower and I was curious as to what it is. It has a barbed plug in it now.

Based on the reply below I have another question.

I just bought a Teleflex Sahara series gauge kit and it came with a speedo pitot. Which would be more accurate...using the speedo pitot that came with the gauge or using the tube off the lower unit?

I am in the processes of laying out the new dash. I'm making it out of 1/2 inch black HDPE. I have some time to think about which option to use. Opinions are welcome.

eeenie meenie minee moe.

I might perhaps use the supplied pitot just because it's matched to the speedo.

But I think it's all standardized as to how much pressure reads how many MPH.

but then again, I might prefer the motor mounted because it doesn't require drilling hole to mount, and on a deep vee it can sometimes be difficult getting it pointed directly into the undisturbed stream when mounting the pitot.
