1985 Forester open bow with Johnson 70hp outboard. I have located the hose for the speedo but can't find the pilot tube location or where the tube connects too. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

tube goes between the pitot tube pickup and the speedo

some motors have a pitot tube pickup in the lower leg

if the 36 year old hose is brittle, buy new hose (about $20 for 100 feet)

Thanks for the post. I have figured out that. This motor doesn't have a pickup on the leg. The pickup is on the boat but I just can't find it. Seems like the tube runs behind battery on right side(if sitting in driver's seat). But still no idea what or where that tube connects too. The previous owner disconnected it.

You need a speedometer pitot (not pilot) tube assembly available right here at iboats

The pitot almost always is screwed to the outside / bottom of the transom, sticking down below the bottom like a finger.

And their accuracy is miles from ever being correct. My bass boat had the Pitot Tube built into the lower section of the engine. And so many times I would arrive home to see that I was still running about 45 miles per hour sitting on the trailer. So I had to get a small drill bit and clean out the tube. If you hit any type debris in the water, it plugs.
