Speedo is clogged

All gauges work except for my speedo. I used a bit of compressed air and blew in the small tube at the front of the skeg and nothing at the gauge. I took a small wire and poked it inside and it went in about 1.5 inches with no obstructions. I cut the tube near the motor where the butt connector is. I blew air in the tube towards the gauge and the gauge worked fine. Blew it back in the skeg and nothing at the cut tube. I blew it backwards through the tube towards the motor and nothing out of the skeg.

Something is blocked 100% in the foot of the motor. 99% of the time compressed air is all it needs to clear out debris, but as usual  mine is the 1%.

Any known ideas of what the issue is or does the lower unit have to come off to fix it?

Re: Speedo is clogged

LOL! This sure does sound familiar . . . . I'm currently having the same trouble. I couldn't remove the obstruction with 175 psi of air, either; so I'm still working on mine.

However, in the past, what I have done was to twist a small drill bit by hand into the pitot hole. I would progressively increase the diameter of the bit and eventually, whatever was in there would catch and be forced out of the bit flutes. I wouldn't recommend doing this using a drill - just your hand.

Good luck.

Re: Speedo is clogged

Shoot, i poked a small piece of solid wire into the hole and find nothing. It goes in about an inch and strikes metal. I can move it around a bit and find nothing that doesnt feel like the cast metal of the foot (like a cavity) Im not hitting any debris.

Regardless its clogged 100%. I cant get air to pass either way. I dont really want to pull the foot just for a speedo, was wondering if anyone has had similar issues and could throw this dog a bone.
