Speedometer operation question

My speedometer in my Bayliner Capri is not working. I took it out and blew into the orifice in the back and could only get the needle to move about 1/2 inch. I then gentley blew air from an air bottle into it and was able to move the needle through its whole range of motion (without slamming against the stops).

I blew through the line from the pitot both connected and disconnected. Connected it feels like blowing into the instrument i.e. no leaks. With the gage removed, the line blows easily with no restrictions.

Can the pitot itself be bad? I have moved it against its spring tension and that seems to be fine.

Any ideas?

Regards,

John

The pitot could be plugged up. This happens all the time. They are cheap, so replace it.

crud get in the the pick up hole. clean it out. also if you have a leak in the line, it will not hold pressure, thus does not work.
