Speedometer problems

I have a 91' runabout. Everything works properly except for the speedometer. I am new to boating so im not sure on how it works. Need some assistance. Thanks

The speedometer works on water and air pressure. your boat has a pitot pickup on the back -- either a plastic deal that sticks down into the water, or the pickup may be built into the engine. If you look at the back of the speedometer you will see a small tube. As the boat goes through the water, water enters the pickup (pitot), that water compresses the air in the tube and that makes the speedo needle move. It is very common for the pitot to get plugged up. You can disconnect the tube at the speedo and apply air pressure to blow it back open.
