Just got an 80 Bowrider Tempest. Took it in the water and notice that the speeometer does not work.
Is there any tips as to how to go about troubleshooting and fixing this?
Is theer anyway to test is the speedometer is working witout taking the boat in the water?
Thanks.

check for a piece of crap in the pitot hole Very small.
Blow 5 lbs of air in it and see if speedo moves.

The very best way to fix the speedo is to get a GPS.

A boat speedo is a generalization at best. I've been anchored in a tidal current and my speedo was reading 10MPH. The boat I have now has no speedo installed as I use GPS exclusively to determine my speed.

The boat speedo uses a hose attached to the speedo to the pitot on the transom. It utilizes the pressure from the water forced into the hose to roughly measure how fast you're going. The hose could have a leak or have an obstruction in it.
