Speedometer works when it wants!

My speedo works sometimes? I hear the little hole on the white thing mount on the transom has to be farthest away from the transom, currently it is mounted closest to the transom? Is it mounted backwards?

Speedo on my 2001 Johnny on a 2000 Hydra Sport has the opening in the white plastic thing on the transom is facing forward. The water pressure going forward compresses the air in the tubing the runs to the speedo and make the speedo move. That tubing, mine is black, could be clogged. You can disconnect it at the speedo and the plastic thing(pickup) and try blowing air threw it to clear the tubing. Hope that helps...
