Hi all,

I havent recieved my Suzuki manual yet for my Spirit 85 horse (1979) I am told this motor 8501 is the same as the DT 85.

Should I be gapping my spark plugs for better performance? or are they fine out of the box? and if so? what should I be gapping them at settings-wise?

What are the benefits of gapping these plugs, everyone I know seems to be in the opinion that I should be gapping these, but they are mostly Merc and OMC pals, and I dont want to burn a hole in my pistons or anything hehe.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Re: Spirit 85 horse (DT85) Spark Plug Gapping?

All spark plugs should have the gap checked before putting in any engine. Besides the fact that some engines using the same spark plug may specify different gaps you never know if the gap set at the factory is still the gap on the plug. I've seen plugs come out of the box with no gap probably because they got knocked around somewhere.
