Spline count for 1985 70HP Evinrude

I have a 1985 Evinrude 70HP Mod. E70ELCR with a <br />Prop size 11 3/4 X 17 I would like to know if anyone knows the spline count for this unit. I would like to not have to take the Prop off if I don't have to. SMILE!

mashford, i believe its 13 splines but i'm not a 100% sure, somebody else will be along to correct me

Welcome!<br /><br />70ELCR is a 1984 20" 3 cylinder. <br /><br />The 11 3/4" diameter props were used on the 15" motors which use a smaller gearcase.<br /><br />What is it we're trying to do?

I want to buy a back up prop. I also am thinking about dropping down to a 15 pitch to give me a little more power for pulling tubes. I have a 1977 terry bass boat 15' it is a heavy boat.<br /><br />Thanks for the spline count information.<br /><br />Marvin

Your motor should require the larger diameter (13" +) unless someone has adapted the small gearcase to your motor.<br /><br />Unless you have a non-OMC factory prop.

What we're looking at is that your model number says you need a prop for the large gearcase but the size you have is for a completely different lower unit. <br /><br />Unless you have an aftermarket prop that just happens to have a very small diameter.

The lower unit appears to be the one that came with the motor the paint is the same color. It has the smaller gear case. I have a problem getting on plane even without pulling a tube it seems I have to run 3/4 throttle to get on plane then back off. What does your manual recommend?<br />I do not have a tach on the unit, but I do not think the motor is winding out.<br /><br />Marvin
