I have a question for all to ponder.....
Why is it that Many fishing tourneys, hunting events, such as the "Opener of Pheasant season", all have a Major BEER manufacturer as the sponsor????? Aren't these the type of events we are trying to get the "next generation" involved in??? Aren't we trying to involve ALL family members??????
All I see is "WELCOME HUNTERS-DRINK OUR BEER" type signs and advertising.....
How about a major soda company as a sponsor-"WELCOME HUNTERS AND FISHERMEN-DRINK OUR POP" type advertising.
Is it standard practice to promote beer drinking, while fishing or Hunting?????
I think it should be more "Family oriented"....

Re: Sponsor of major events.....

One reason might be that there are local beer distributors that sponsor local events. I don't know of any local soda distributors, at least not around here.

Reason 2, demographics and market research.

I sure hope I don't see Playstation sponsoring a hunting event. Sure it might bring in the next generation, but did you ever see those kids play those "blow em up" video games?

Yea, but what about a drunk with a gun?

I think that would be worse than a kid with a playstation.

SBN, You got my point, exactly..........
As far as "Local" distibutors, I've never seen one near any lake I've fished a Tourney, nor have I seen one near any hunting trial event, but why press BEER, if the family is to be involved???

My point is, if you ever saw the way the kids are blowing up stuff in the games, you wouldn't want to be in the woods with them if'n they had a real gun, drunk or sober.

I've seen commercials for Budweiser saying "When the hunt is through, this Bud's for you." I don't think they would advertise or condone drinking while hunting, they'd be just asking for a lawsuit.

hey the beer companies sponsour a lot of stuff, and the largest reason is that they have sooooooooo much money that they can throw it at just about anything.

Re: Sponsor of major events.....

I think the point trying to be made here is, everybody seems to like to look at hunting and fishing as a family oriantated sport but the biggest and most frequent sponsers are the beer companies. So it may seem to some ( the young ) that these fine sports go hand in hand with drinking. But on the other hand if you take your kids hunting or fishing or whatever, the exsample you set by not drinking will do more to nulify that way of thinking for them then it being sponsered by dew, and you knocking down a few. Just my thoughts here, I hope I didnt offend anybody.

Re: Sponsor of major events.....

Our local beer distributor sponsors my golf tournament every year. When I asked them to sponsor a pigeon shoot and they were agreeable as long as the beer was for the after shoot reception.

All the Poker Runs I've been to always get a Budweiser sponsorship and so does the Mermaid Tournament which is an all ladies fishing tournament benefiting the Women's Crisis Center. I think it has a lot to do with the beer licensing and who would be held liable. Most non-profits carry a minimum of $3,000,000 in liability insurance. As far as beer establshiments I would think they carry quite a bit too.

Mike I'll Agree with you absolutly NO alchole (sp?) on the boat what-so-ever. In jersey if you get caught under the influence out on the water it's the same as driving a car lose lic and penalty, fine, & surcharges. Thank you I'll keep my money. :p :p :p

You can't even have it on the boat here in Ky.

If you do, you go to jail, period, no questions asked, as it should be.

I have nothing for anyone that would drink and drive anything.

It's all about MONEY Walleyehed....

The same goes for sports events. I can't stand any sporting event anymore.
How many advertisements do you see for this, that, or the other?
Like I posted here before: Do you advertise for free by wearing that Team T-Shirt, or ball-cap or whatever?

And they make MILLIONS off of it all. You or I don't get a dime.

Booze just doesn't mix with any activity that requires your attention (short of sitting on the couch with the remote :) )

Booze and Hunting go hand-in-hand around my area.
Too many times I've seen the s**t-faced hunting party DRIVING down the road with guns sticking out of every window.
A funny site to see. (I actually call them Californians  )

H.

Re: Sponsor of major events.....

Hmmm.

It makes perfect sense to me.

I am going to sponsor (advertise my product) where people who use my product are most likely to be or to be watching on the tube.

I am not going to get many new customers for my beer by sponsoring a women's fashion show or a gardening show. I am going to sponsor sporting events, fishing tournaments, stock cars. . .where beer drinkers will get my message.

Like many of you I don't allow any alcohol on my boat, but after the catching is done or the hunt is over, back at camp, a cold one or a dram of Macallan's is my standard way to end the day. :)

I think the cautionary messages like " If you smoke , try coffin nails..." or " After the hunt , drink Suds-O Lite responsibly..." show that they don't encourage irresponsible use of their products.
