First, this is my first post...thank you all for the help so far posting/responding with your knowledge on the Sport Jet's.

I acquired a 95 Regal Rush XP with the Sport Jet 120 motor S#0E125353. The boat has sat for the past 5 or so years.

I went through it and cleaned carbs, oil injection, fuel pump/lines, etc. and put it in the water to start it up. No start...won't even pop. Starter spins very strong/fast. I am getting fuel, both bowls full. Putting the spark tester on it, the light is barely lighting (however looks consistently timed) and I only say barely as it was in the evening, not even visible during the day light.

I have the service manual for this motor and begun walking through the ignition tests and cross-referenced Kend's posts which have been very helpful.

I have the black stator that comes to the switch box. On either side of the switch box is the voltage regulator and rev limitor.

Disconnected black/yellow wire at switch box. No/barely spark still.

Did the coil voltage test with the Multimeter/DVA Tester. Needle barely moved at each coil.

The next test then asks to test the voltage on the blue wire coming from the black stator. The bold letters in the manal say that every lead must be hooked up to the switch box in order to do this test. I slid the red lead on the DVA tester under the boot on the blue wire from the stator so it contacted the metal (instead of disconnecting it from wire leading to switch box) and then grounded on the engine with the black lead. Went to crank the motor and nothing happened. Starter didn't engage, no voltage read, nothing. I disconnected and tried again, same...nothing. Put it all back together and tried to crank without any tests/grounds hooked up and nothing. Wouldn't crank until this morning. Does that tell me something?? Thought that was odd.

I moved on. Blue to Blue/White on stator ohmed nothing. Needle didn't move. Red to Red/White burried the needle on the other side showing a wide open circuit. Assuming that means the stator is shot?

Tested the trigger. Ohmed all wires at 60 (x100). Assumed from manual if that ohmed and coils showed low volts, that my switch box is bad too.

So...bottom line...recomendations on what I need to replace or do based on this? If I do the red stator, I found part number 398-832075A6 which is the kit but it also lists in the bulliten I need part number 821889A36 which is a new rev limitor.

Thanks for taking the time to read...hopefully I captured everything.

Re: Sport Jet 120 No Spark - Some Troubleshooting Specs

Thanks. So assuming the stator is bad, I'm reading in other posts I need the red one as an upgrade kit.

To your or anyone's knowledge are the part numbers I listed at the end correct for what I need? In addition to the kit, are there other necessary parts that must accommodate the upgraded stator like a rev limiter as suggested in the bulletin I read? Part numbers were 398-832075A6 and 821889A36 for the Sport Jet 120 4 cyl.

Looks like I need a new switchbox from the tests too unless someone finds an error in my logic.

My free boat hasn't turned out to be so free.

No... low voltage output is due to the stator not charging the internal capacitor in switchbox...
