Re: Sport jet 90 low power

He's right about it being an outboard, and it getting sweaty, and stators do go bad. I don't think I agree about not being able to test the trigger. You might have a trigger that tests ok but is really bad, but if it tests bad I think it is bad. For grins I ohmed out the new trigger when I got my new one and all three tested delightfully equal. Planning on towing folks around the lake today!

Lots going on in this thread and it seems all advice is very accurate ,
Yes the trigger is bad , Tests are accurate but a trigger can fool you with the readings I test mine by checking it then rotating the flywheei 1/2 turn and rechecking 3 times , I have found bad triggers that checked good the first or second time .
The fuel pulsing issue is indeed a bad diaphgram in the pump fix it asap as this will lean out the fuel mixture and could hurt the motor.

Gert , your performance is somewhat normal . These boats are very sensative to conditions , I have had mine running 38 mph going one way on the river and only run 31 mph when I turn around and went aginst the wind and tide . The ride plate needs to be flush with the hull fully sealed and straight . A damaged ride plate is a performance killer for sure !

Performance update:
1994 14' searayder sportjet 90
conditions: windy and choppy
4 adults 3 in the boat and one on a knee board, I was able to ultimately get on plane, but it took a while(2 mins). Knee boarders had a good time. Coming back into the wind, I traded out the knee board for a raft but was not able to get on plane. Later dropped two people off and knee boarded with remaining two adults and it was easy to get on plane. Killing time, while the trailer was backing down the ramp, I measured 34 mph with my GPS, but the chop was beating me up. All in all, I'd say it's running about right. Thoughts on trim tabs?

Re: Sport jet 90 low power

Testing is a fundamental process of QC. Manufactures must build parts to engineering standards then Quality Control (the testing) kicks in to assure the manufacture is making the parts to the engineering spec. Not being able to test takes out QC and manufacture might as well take two gum wrappers and tie them together and call it a working trigger, stator or whatever. The mech. probally just whats your money to do it, which is why they are in bussiness after all. Around here the high dollar mech. usually will give just enough info to get yourself in trouble, like "oh yea did I forget to tell you that will take a special wrench" after you got something so far apart you've run out of bench room. Keep posting here for probally the most accurate info out.

Very glad to hear that you got it working. Can you add a little color to the WOT 37MPH. What was your loading and how did you measure it.

Thanks

Ken
