Sportjet 175 compression test question

Can you run an engine compression test on all 6 cylinders without running water? Will I damage the engine if I run the starter multiple times without the hose running water through the engine?

I am thinking about purchasing a very old boat with no history on it (other than 73 hours). Don't know the last time it ran, don't know anything.

I know that if any of the cylinders have low or no compression - walk away from it! But if they all have good compression - it will be worth the extremely low price.

The boat is on an impound lot and I will not have any access to water - I want a compression test - but don't want to do it if it destroys the engine.

Thanks for the help!!!

No need for water to do a compression test.---Also check if any warranty work / replacement has been done.

the raw water impeller is probably shot and needs replacing anyway.

There is a raw water impeller on a sportjet 175? Where is that located?

Thanks

It located in the access panel under the automatic idler switch...you will need a metric screwdriver to remove screws..:D
