I need some help. My boat was runnning awesome last week, but after loading up and running the boat this week, there was more than usual white smoke, then when in idle the boat completely died and would not start. I checked the fuel and gas is pumping. Tried testing the spark plug in the harness and testing to see if a spark would jump from the plug to the engine (bolt), but nothing. I am unfamilar with marine spark splugs not having the protruding gap to see a spark. I tried to bypass the auto kill switch by connecting the two wires directly together. Cleaned the fuel filter ( a little worried that their was a few grains of what looked like sand on the inside portion of the fuel delivery). Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks a lot for any help. Joe

Oh yeah, the engine is a 94 out of a Baja Blast. I think I need to replace the stator, but the posts that I have found that people posted, someone emailed them the directions on how to replace and that doesnt do me any good. Thanks in advance, Joe

The surface gap plugs are hard to tell. You could place a 'regular' plug in the connector and check for the spark jump.

The white smoke is worrisome. Can you check your compression?

Finally, fuel could be pumping but a float could be stuck, flooding the engine.

Careful cranking the engine with the ignition not grounded through the plugs. That can fry some ignitions.

Good luck,
fp

Re: sportjet 90 mercruiser no spark

Hopefully someone sees this new post and can help. I purchased the red stator and my wiring harness has two different colored wires than the new stator.

Red Stator has
2 yellow
green w/ wht
white w/grn

Harness has
2 yellow
red
blue

Not sure the correct hook up at this point. The two yellow come from the rectifier I believe and the red and blue go into the switch box. Thanks in advance! Joe

You might want to post this on the Force/Chrysler section here at iboats. That engine is actually a Force outboard powerhead.
