spot glazing after filler, before base primer

I'm completely restoring a 17' Imperial inside and out.(big Job) My question is about a fiberglass boat and using glazing compound to fill very small scratches and dings after fixing them with filler prior to applying base coat primer. The tube of stuff says you can use it on fiberglass boats, as well as cars. Is this a good ideal or not? I also would like to know how to heat my garage in the winter and spray paint, without blowing myself up:eek: Anyone ??? Please!!!!

I don't like using spot glaze.
Not the green stuff!!
Maybe the two part lightweight glaze.

Use a surfacing primer (high build sandable)
Sand your bondo out to 600.

A good hi-build two part primer will fill the divots in a golf ball:)
Might be over exaggerating but it fills!

I heat my garage with a torpedo heater and electric heat lamps, and electric heaters.
Your room needs to stay at least around 70?, constant.
FYI it takes a long time to get the boat/car warm!
Watch the weather and pick a warm day.

I start heating it at 7AM and don't paint until around 3PM.
I keep the paint/thinner in the house overnight!
I shut the torpedo off about an hour before I paint and let the dust settle.
The lamps and heaters stay on, and keep them on all night, if it's real cold, I'll leave them on the next day.

I also compensate for drying time by adjusting the catalyst...if calls for 2 oz harder, bump it up to 2 1/2 or 3 oz
Do the same for every cup load un-less it's drying too fast.

A clean shop is a happy shop and a clean paint job.

PS My buddy sprays with the torpedo heater running on the end of his shop!
Been doing it since the 70's, in the late 90's he installed a gas hot air system...still hasn't blown himself up!

BE SAFE AND DON"T DO THAT and be careful with thinners and paint around the heat lamps/heaters!

Evercoat polyester glazing putty is what Awlgrip recommends so if it's anything like that you'll be good.

Ditto-

I have used Evercoat putty and it works great. Easy to use, dries quick and sands to a fine feather edge. Good stuff. I have also made my own using epoxy and a liberal amount of micro balloons. But it does not sand as easily as the Evercoat.
Keep in mind that glazing is intended for pin holes and small defects. I do not recommend you use it for larger areas.

That Acrylic spot putty is going to be good for filling the pinholes after you prime ( fill the holes before you sand your primer ).

Good trick with that tube is to keep one finger on the spout while using a razor blade to fill the pinholes. ( the stuff air dries )

YD.
