this is a cool site i am already hooked and only owned a boat for about three months. its a 85 dixie 17 foot ski boat with a 140 hp i/o mercruiser. have already had it on the lake quite a bit. this winter i am thinking about redoing the floor and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on spray in floor rubber like the kind they use on truck beds. i think it would be better than carpet and there is a guy around here that does it and he can make it any color you want. whats your opinion everyone? cost, durability, doability? sorry about that one word i am from ky.

jjohnson

Re: spray on floor covering

I did not know that the material used in spray on bedliners readily and reliably adhered to wood. If someone claims it does, the floor better be of stable, clean, well supported, cpes sealed wood that is well sealed to the sides of the boat. Personally, although I am not the expert, I think you would go thru a lot of effort, under the best of circumstances, and in a short while end up with a mess on your hands.

That spray on liner is heavy, expensive, and is overkill for what you want. I used a product called Evercoat non-skid. It is similar to the bed liner, has rubberized nibblets in it, and more importantly, it is meant for the purpose you intend. It is a safe bet there is a layer of fiberglass over the wood on you floor, you will need to sand that with some 60 grit and wipe it down with acetone, then you can apply the Evercoat with a brush, a roller, whatever. I used a brush so I could make patterns in the floor for a unique look. It comes in different colors, is about $40 a gallon, and two gallons will get you set up for sure with two solid coats.
