Hi everyone,

I've got a 95 Johnson Ocean 150, which runs great and has had no major problems. My dealer went out of business, and I wasn't too happy with them anyway, so this year I plan to do the Spring commissioning myself, and am looking for advice on what to do, aside from the obvious (checking plugs, etc.).

The manual is not very helpful. Can anyone point me to a good resource, or post some recommendations?

Thanks very much, good boating.

Re: Spring Checklist

It all depends on how you put the engine away for the winter? If it was done by a dealer then it was most likely fogged and lubed. If not by a dealer then you should do a good inspection of engine including a water pump, remove prop and lube spline, replace plugs and inspect all wiring. The tilt unit should be checked and lubed. The lower unit oil should be changed and the old oil inspected for water(Shows up as a milky mix) also look at oil for signs of metal flakes from wear in lower unit. Most clymer or seloc manuals have a good bit of info on maintenance.

got a 1998, same engine. picked up a clymer shop manual on amamzon.com real cheap. great info, but the pictures suck. did all the fall and spring crap myself. although it took awhile to learn, it was fun. good luck-

Re: Spring Checklist

if the dealer winterized it check the lower unit for milk put the muffs on I like to run it a little rich at first. Like 40-1 fire it up and go from there. If its fine go for it. You wont know about any lower unit leakage really until you get it in the water and run it anyway
