Be sure to check 'em out before you light 'em up folks. I'm a ways from launch because I have my carb upgrade to do, but I pulled the cover off to fire up one of my boats today. Glad I was in my yard and pulled the cover berore trying to light ot off, otherwide, I might have really "lit it off" the hard way. Looks like the fuel line sprang a leak as it enters the carb. There was a puddle of raw fuel in a pocket on the manifold. Cleaned it all up, tightened it down, grabbed a fire ext. just in case, and she started up on the third turn of the key, but got shut back down immediately. Once the fuel pump started pumping, the leak returned. Looks like the fuel line is just too fatigued and has a pin-hole after the years of removal and re-install from rebuilds, or just doesn't seal anymore. Either way, that line is headed for the trash bin.

Granted, this leak was somewhat self-induced from previous work, I think it serves as a EXCELLENT WARRNING for EVERYONE, Sterndriver's, Outboarder's, Inboarder's, EVERYONE. Pull the cover and check it out before you start it for the spring and always check for fumes before starting.

I'm pretty anal about maintenance and checking everything out and that's how I caught this before it got ugly.

Looks like I'll go ahead and install the new 4bbl and fab up a new line for it.
