Just bought a new head for the Lark and when I took the original head off, I was surprised to find that my boat had had no thermostat OR pressure relief valve. Yikes. Anyway, the new head came with both, except for the valve's spring. I ran to Ace today and bought one that fits the valve's diameter and seems to have the correct coil length/coil number ratio and guage (from pictures of OEM Evinrude springs I've looked at). The only thing I'm not sure about is what total length my spring should be to produce the correct tension. Currently it's 2 5/8'' long, I have a feeling it needs to be shortened a bit.
