Hello,
I currently have a 1995 Sea Ray 185 5 series with a mercruiser 4.3 alpha one-gen II outdrive.
I need help with fluids, part orders, part identification.
Here is the list so far. I’m trying to be as prepared for the spring as I can if you can answer just one question it would be helpful. I’m only asking the questions that I need help with. I have been using the search function, but I can’t find the exact answer to all of these questions. Everything so far ordered has been from the direct posts and advice from fellow iboaters and much appreciated!! PICS below for some questions.
Ordered:
Other orders. Mercury Gimbal & U Joint Grease. Impeller kit from Tungsten Marine. Saw the one gasket missing on iboats.
Questions:
1. How often do you grease gimbal bearing? When you grease it how many pumps? I’ve yet to tear into the boat and wont until this fall. Is there a rubber seal that could burst if you put too much grease in there? IE tie rod ends.
2. The hydraulic oil has a darker green look to it? Is that normal? How often do you change it? What kind should I use?
3. Drive oil (If that’s what it’s called) how often do you change it? What color should it be? What kind should I use? Maybe it’s a gear oil reservoir? It’s located on the right back side (when sitting in the boat looking back) behind the steering fluid reservoir.
4. What kind of power steering fluid should I use?
5. I attached a picture of what appears to be a bleed screw or release for winterization. After realigning my back I was able to see that on my engine there was one on each side already mounted on the block. This little guy was sitting down in the bilge pump area. I’m guessing someone dropped it down there and just decided not to retrieve it and replaced it with a new one, but I wanted to make sure just in case I have another hole to plug.
6. Easy one. How much HP does my engine have? 0F590011 S#. When I did a search all that came up was 4.3L/LX TB4, W/PS, TWOPCEX (No idea what that is), W/RO (No idea).
Any advice is appreciated! Thank you for your time!
