I have a little 14 ft aluminum boat that is in a little bit of rough shape that I am wanting to fix up. I really like the size of the boat, its small enough to get around easily in the small lakes in Saskatchewan, CAN and runs like a champ. The main thing is the decking and chairs. The carpet is in rough shape and the plywood underneath is starting to rot. I want to replace it, but would rather not use carpet. I was thinking of replacing it with teak decking boards. The boat isn't very big so it wouldn't take much to get it back in shape. I was thinking of doing 2 inch or so strips, with space in between them, similar to how a deck for a house would be. That way any water that gets in would be able to drain into the bottom and get pumped out by the bilge pump if it gets too high. I know teak requires a fair bit of maintenance, but the boat is small enough it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to take care of, and I think it looks much nicer. I am planning on swapping out the current seats for a bench in the back and 2 swivel chairs in the front, and maybe a third swivel chair on the bow. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are, or if there are better alternatives for the flooring. Thanks for the help.

Teak would be nice but pretty pricey .. I made some deck panels by planing down some cedar to 1/2" / 3/8" .. The cedar is not to expensive and pretty light weight ..

Thanks for the advice. I had thought about cedar, but wasn't too sure how it would hold up. I am pretty new to boats, so dont really know what I am doing but am willing to hear out other more experienced people. Cedar would certainly be cheaper, and much easier to find where I am. How are you treating the wood? I would want it on the entire deck, so it can't be too slippery.

I used Epifanes varnish .. It may be a bit slick but there are other alternatives out there for a nonskid surface ..
