I have a 16' Zodiac RIB which I tow on a long tongue trailer behind a Sienna van. The trailer has one joint where the Y arms join the tongue arm (see image). The trailer was specified by the boat dealer. Because of the length and build of this trailer, it can flex a bit. Normally everything is ok, but sometimes it can start wobbling a bit (like when a big truck blows by or the road is rough). It doesn't seem to affect anything but you can feel the vibration in the van and makes the ride a bit uncomfortable when traveling long distances.

I am thinking about adding some reinforcing beams to the trailer. The drawing attached gives an idea of the trailer layout (black). The orange lines show where I propose adding bracing. I would use the same sort of beams that are used to make the rest of the trailer.

Any thoughts?

Re: Springy trailer

The second is the large gate I built on the side of my house. It is wide enough that I can roll any highway legal boat into my back yard. Depending on what boats I have in stock at the time, I roll them around in various spots, hiding them from my wife. Luckily she can't tell the difference between them, so whenever a new one arrives and that curious statment comes from her mouth "Is that a new boat over there"? I just try to play it off as the boat that was over there behind the other one, and I just re-arranged. :) Some Interesting Trailers
When talking with others and reading articles at DuckWorksMagazine.com, I get the feeling that there are a bunch of people who really like to avoid trailers of all types. There are all sorts of articles on cartopping written with the terrible dread of a trailer. I have always liked small boat trailers, and have pretty much given up cartopping because small trailers are so easy to use for transporting and storing just about any type of boat.
