Sprint Cell Phone Service-Rant.

Dang it. I have had it with Sprint.

Clear, yes, as long as your call does not last for more than five seconds.

I find it amazing that my cell phone coverage indicator can go from five bars (all available) to "signal faded" without me moving the phone one inch. It happens as soon as I generate a call.
Sprint Rep's (adorned with body hardware-read piercings) say: "dude, the airwaves are busy".

Not a satisfactory answer, in my book.

The Sprint service is a "company" service. I have gone to Alltell, at my own expense, so that I can actually talk to a customer.

MAD, in AZ.

Re: Sprint Cell Phone Service-Rant.

We have verizon. They told us we were covered whenever we signed up and bought the phone with a 2 year contract. When we got home we couldn't use the phone for almost three weeks because they were having trouble porting our number. Once it was ported we tried. Still couldn't use it at home. We could travel and it would work great but not at home. Verizon gaureenteed us it would work. We pulled the coverage maps out and sure enough we were outside of the area of service. Verizon said they would refund all of our money and cancel the srevice with no charge to us. That was 4 months ago. 4 faxes, 2 regular letters, and two signed recipt letters later I am still paying the bill. We canceled our Cellular One service cause we were paying $35 a month for 100 minutes. With Verizon we get 200 anytime and 1000 weekend/night minutes at the same price. The downside to that is we only get about 10-15 minutes a month use. Verizon isn't very good either.

KB,

I forgot to add, my Sprint service is N/A in my home office. And, I live in a major metro area.

It works in the driveway, just not in my office, 50 feet away.

Get pretty good service with Cingular, DJ, but I have to use a remote antenna at The Hideout.

I had one service that I did not get service when sitting at my desk.

Move 2 feet in any direction, it would be fine.

Its just a matter of the walls doing weird things with the signal.

My work phone is Verizon, my personal phone is Cingular. Here in Houston, they both work the same.

Ken

Have tried a number of carriers. Verizon has worked the best for the longest. It has even improved in some areas that were problems for me in the past. Still, not perfect. There are some times when I experience what DJ says, but all in all, it has served me best. BTB, I do have to move around inside my house to get a reliable signal.

In addition to the IRS, I wish the terrorists would make themselves useful and drop a bomb on Sprint too!

Worthless bunch of SOB's in my opinion.
Don't get me started on that outfit.

I'm (unfortunately) with ATT/Cingular. They are the only ones that have good signal at home.
I tried others, but their signal was non existent.

After multiple billing errors, and a cancellation by me, ATT finally straightened their act out and got things right. I since reconnected and haven't had a bill wrong since.

Keep on top of those jokers. Don't give them one inch! They make money hand over fist. The least you deserve is what you signed up and pay for.

H.

My wife and I use Alltel. We love it. My phone works in my office elevator, inside my office (deep inside the building), etc. On my ride home, I have one place (and one place only so far) that I will lose a call. It is right on the corner of our road next to a humoungous cell tower. I have 5 "bars" on the phone and it just drops the call nearly everytime I get to that exact spot.

Strange?

Re: Sprint Cell Phone Service-Rant.

I have verizon, share plan, four phones,1200 plan mins, unlimited nites,w/ends,and verizon to verizon talk anytime. no roam,or long distance, daughters at college only have cell phones. 125 per month.
My phone does not work in my kitchen, niether does my ems pager. i can see two cell sites from my house. my cell phone does not transmit out of my office, but recieves ok, A VERIZON OFFICE, My daughter in providence could recieve and not talk from her dorm room, att /sprint were ok?
think how much power do you want to emit from the side of your head to a cell site maybe 10/20 miles line of sight, your vhf radio on aboat should do as well.
I am bias to Verizon, but the technology is basic, and the equipment is prodominently lucent. (att)
i could go on, but my day is done.

KaGee,

Had the phone checked out at two different Sprint stores. Other phones, same service, did the same thing. The answer: " sorry dude, live with it".

It only takes a second for pin to drop and you hear it, that's what I get from Sprint.

All in all, it's rather trivial that we have cell service issues. The cell system, in itself, is actually quite amazing, just maddening at times.

Re: Sprint Cell Phone Service-Rant.

Hey DJ, I'm a phone guy in SLC, Ut. I build cell circuits and networks for all the companys here. I just bought my wife a verizon phone, before that she had at&t. My expierence is they are the best (that's not saying much). My company phone is on the sprint network and doesn't work at the nearest lake. I constantly have dropped calls. I get a discount on the sprint network and wouldn't get one. My 2 pennies.

Re: Sprint Cell Phone Service-Rant.

I have been with Cingular since before they were Cingular because in my mostly rural area...they seem to have the best coverage, and a competitive rate plan. Got mad at them once and went to Sprint...that lasted two days. The Sprint phone worked great as long as you were in town or on the interstate....everywhere else you were roaming. Now that ATT & Cingular have merged I am hoping that the coverage will improve in some of the more remote areas.
