Will I be able to see any signs of a spun hub without marking and running it?

18' bayliner 3.0l 4cyl. 14.25 x 21p

as soon as the engine hits 3000 rpms I loose all acceleration and the rpms jump up faster.

from what I have read it sounds like a spun hub but I don't want to put it back in the water just to find out I need a new prop anyways.

Usually there are no visual indications. But it sure sounds like you have one. A prop shop can make it like new.

Re: Spun hub?

I just had the same thing on my suzuki dt 40. It was running great for the first time and I mean great. Stopped, parked and when I started back up and reached a certain rpm I could hear the wind. I am really hoping this is the same thing. When I dropped the speed it was fine but when speeding up the same thing. Prop is old. Any advice guys? Thanks.

mark the prop with a line across the hub and on the prop. take boat for spin. come back and inspect. if the line is no longer "inline" indicating your prop spun, then you will need to get it repaired or replaced.

You may consider a spare prop. as well. Never hurts to have a second on hand in case you spin a hub or damage a blade.
That way you can still go out if you need to leave your damaged prop. in the shop for a while.

I'd do the line test like Scott Danforth suggests, but I"m betting you have a spun hub. Hopefully.

Thanks guys for the input. I just ordered a new prop. Any ideas what that could be if it isn't the prop?
