Re: spun out

It was a prop hub whos time was up. What size was the prop? and how did it perform prior to it's demise.

You can have that prop repaired. It's a lot cheaper than a new one. Even if there is a more optimum size/pitch for you, it could be a good spare. They can also change the pitch by a couple of inches and cup it as well.

What's this about Freebeetony sinking his boat??? did I miss something?

Re: spun out

#1 - freebeetony had been gone from the forum for a while -speculation was rampant that he went down with the ship
#2. The prop was a 15 1/2 x 17, had problems with engine rpms going over 2500rpm. Finally fixed, combo of carb, plugs and timing.
Boat ran fine week ago. Yesterday, filled up at the dock, wne to the pump out then out in the river headed to Point Lookout (18 miles). Boat seemed strange, rpms would do some fluctuating, and could not get over 13 knots at 3.5K. Guessed it was growth from the hot water. Seemed to slowly eget better then engine went to about 4500rpm, and a whine from the drive. slowed to idele, noise stopped. Put back in gear, would run perfectly at 6.2 knots but at 2500 rpm.
Two factors, engine tended to run on the warm side and very high fuel consumption.
Limped halfway back and had towboat meet me half way. Did not want to die suddenly in the dark.
The prop was an interchangeable hub type.
My story and sticking to it.

Re: spun out

you spun the flo torque hub? this shouldnt affect water flow as the vertical shaft is directly driven from the engine unless the donut is spun. if your prop hub has no damage or you replace it and the problem remains you have likely spun the drive coupler bolted to the flywheel.
