I was just looking over the FAQ forum, trying to think of topics we will need for the busy spring and summer months ahead.

I noticed that we don't have one that covers
"engine revs / no accelleration, spun prop" issues.

WHo wants to write on that covers the symptoms and different ways to test for a spun hub?

Or should we have a little contest here and let JB or a mod pick the one they want to place in the FAQ?

Are there any other topics we should be adding?

Re: spun prop - FAQ

roscoe
You might have a spun hub/prop if:
Your taking off from the dock at 6000 rpm and your boat is only doing 6 MPH

You might have a spun hub/prop if:
Your on plane and you hear a bang and the steering wheel jerks and your rpms max out as you start to slow down quickly

You might have a spun hub/prop if:

:) would be a good subject a contest might be fun

Re: spun prop - FAQ

Excellent suggestion, Roscoe! It is certainly a frequently asked question.

Here's what I suggest (This is how the "Outboard Wont Start" article came about):

Write the article and post it as "FAQ: High RPM, No speed" in the General Outboard Forum.

Ask for suggestions and additions. Edit the post to include suggested improvements.

When you are satisfied that it is thorough and accurate, let me know and I will move it to the FAQ section, with credit to the author.

The same procedure can be used for any FAQ, and we appreciate the contribution. :)

Re: spun prop - FAQ

I remember spending a lot of time and money getting the 59 Johnson to an impeccable state of tune, breathe on the thing and it would start

idled like glass, no shake, none, everying to absolute perfection

out big timber creek, into the shipping lanes of the delaware river, right near the navy yards

vvvrrrrRRRRROOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

howlin like hounds from helll, aint going nowhere

WTF?????

3 things learned

1 Panamanian frieghters do not care if you are broke down, they dont slow down and they have a huge wake (and an 18 foot outboard boat will move at near planing speeds with only paddles, if the desire to do so is strong enough!

2 philly boaters SUCK, a jersey big block jet boat drug us back

3 Never leave the dock without a spare prop!

VERY frustrating to have that motor idling over like it was the summer of 59 and the ol johnny was brand new, and couldnt go anywhere!
