I FINALLY got my vintage outboard on a lake, made a few good passes with it. It ran awesome. It was absolutely PERFECT.....until the prop hit a rock and spun the hub. :( I know for a fact that the lower unit is fine. The hub did its job. (thank god) I don't know where I can find a prop for this old motor. Anyone have any ideas as to where I can start looking? is getting such an old prop re-hubed an option? I have a parts manual at home which I could provide part numbers from...unfortunately thats all the way down in chicago. I'm up in Jacksonport door county wisconsin if someone knows anyone up here that can help me out.

Thanks in advance, you guys have always been a big help!

That's a 1958 10HP Johnny. I don't think they used a rubber hub, but a drive pin that was easy to shear.

On mine there was a spare drive pin in a little clamp inside of the cowl. No spare, you can do a temp repair by putting the two short pieces in one side and the long one in the other side. That would give you half a pin for short term emergency use.

Good luck. :)

I found 2 props for you right here at boats . Go to boat parts follow instructions for year and hp .it will get u to props I used a 8" pitch for your prop I think that came standard for that motor . The 2 props I found were $80-90 .I assumed you have a 10hp cuz I have a qd21and that's a10 hp hope it helps

sounds like a shearpin to me. have you pulled the prop off to take a look? you probably dont need a prop.....just a pin and a spare. you can even buy a piece of brass rod from your local hardware store and make more pins than you "should" ever use.

Sure it had a rubber hub. Original drive pin was 3/16" x 1-3/16" stainless steel. If prop has been replaced with a newer one, it probably uses a 3/16" x 1-3/8" stainless drive pin. Just lay one in the slot to see if it is the right length.

The way I understand it. The drive pin is just that...a drive pin. It is not intended to sheer. I didn't know props were still made for this motor. This prop that I have now CAN be rehubed right?

As far as I know all the OMC dealers can send em out to rehub. I believe mine does.

Is it worth getting it rehubed? When I can pick up a new prop from iboats?

Is the pin sheared? Don't fix what ain't broke.

I never had a hub fail in my 1950s JohnnyRudes, but I replaced many, many sheared pins. Call it whatever you want, it shears.

The pin did not sheer, I wish it was that easy. I have spare drive pins. >=| I suspect its the prop hub because it will propel the boat till about 1/2 throttle then the RPMS go sky high and no power is applied to the water. It's staying in gear just fine. I took the prop off and inspected what I could of the lower unit from the outside. The shaft is straight and spins freely when turned by hand. No looseness or anything. Nothing that would indicate something epicly failed. When I get home I'll drain the gear lube and see if I find any metal. Untill then I ordered a new prop and I will get the old one re-hubed at some point.

Thanks again for the help/advice. You guys helped me a lot during the restoration process. The few passes I got to make with it on its trial run were PERFECT. Thanks partly to you guys.

Would have saved a lot of keyboarding if you had told us that right away.
