Re: Spun prop?

mark the prop and hub. run the motor. if the marks don't still line up your prop is spinning on the hub.

Re: Spun prop?

I may be having the same problem with my prop. it too has a shear pin (1962 40 h.p. Evinrude) Looks like my shear pin holds the hub in place, but the prop could be free spinning on the hub under high torquwe. The shaft spins the hub, but not the prop at anything over 1/2 throttle. At 1/2 throttle or less, I have no problem. Will mark my prop tomorrow to check it out.

Re: Spun prop?

Thanks for letting me know how to check for a spun prop. Took me a few times out on the lake to see the marks move apart, but the last time, the marks were waaayyy off from each other. Seemed like the engine was going 3/4 speed, but my boat was going 1/2 speed. I ordered a new prop from iboats today, and they said it will arrive tomorrow at my house for less than $10 delivery fee. Great service!!

Re: Spun prop?

They sure do; I had my first one on a 61 18 hp Evinrude circa 1962.
Spun hubs go way back farther than 61.
