Can some one help me. I have 2 motors for my 16' jon boat. One is a 1972 25 evinrude and the other is a 1965 9.5 evinrude. the 25 hasn't ran in about 2 years and the 9.5 has not been in the water for over 20 years. Both motors run great but I have spun both props on these motors. Is it because they have been out of the water for so long or is it something that I am doing wrong. I am sure that I did not hit anything with them and both props are in good shape. I am new to this boating thing and am starting to get discuraged.

Re: Spun props

Are the hubs spun or are the motors ventilating?
What is the transom height? the motors Shaft length?
with motor on boat the antivent plate(just above the prop) should be about even with the bottom of the boat.
Put and indelable mark across the hubs and run the motors check the mark.

Re: Spun props

You where right on with my 15hp Johnson. The prop started sucking air when the boat speed got over 7 mph. Need to lower the moter on the transom, Thanks for the good advice.
