sputtering and popping

I have a 89 mercury 70hp.It ran fine last weekend.I refilled the tanks and now it just sputters and pops.Nothing else was done to make this happen.

Have you checked the carbs for water?

i drained the bottom bowl,no water. I will empty the others today.could there be somthing else to look for while i'm in there?

There is always the chance of alcohol in today's fuel and it will cut the varnish loose in the float bowl and crude everything up. Nice HUH
