I have a 2005 VP 5.0 gxi that developed problems. Over a few months of research on the internet, finding similar problems but not finding confirmed solutions, following find list of possible causes. Each potential cause was checked, cleaned/replaced as needed and finally found the cause. Nowhere in all of my research did anyone mention this cause. I am sure what I list below will help many people.

CAUSES:

IGNITION COIL/DISTRIBUTOR MODULE
FUEL PUMP
WATER IN FUEL - DIRTY FUEL FILTER
VACUUM LEAK
DISTRIBUTOR CAP/ROTOR/PLUGS
FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
COMPRESSION TO EACH CYLINDER
CARBON BUILD UP
EFI SYSTEM MICROPROCESSOR
OXYGEN SENSORS
ANTI SIPHON VALVE
INTAKE SCREEN ON BOTTOM OF FUEL PICK UP TUBE CLOGGED
SPARK PLUG WIRES
ALL ELECTRICAL WIRING
VAPOR LOCK
EXCESSIVE OIL - OVER FULL CAPACITY BASED ON DIP STICK
CLOGGED FUEL TANK VENTS/FUEL CAP VENT
BAD RUBBER FUEL LINES LEADING TO ENGINE
CHECK FOR GOOD CONNECTIONS WITH BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER
WIRES ON HIGH AND LOW PRESSURE SECTIONS OF FUEL PUMP

I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump. It was expensive - did not correct the problem. My mechanic also checked some possibilities and all checked out fine. He then thought about the FUSE BOX. He put a used one on and no more problems. He then replaced with a new one and all has run great!

I ask that whenever someone states a problem on any forum that when their problem is resolved that they go back on the forum and tell all what the solution was. In all of my research, this did not occur. A stated problem with what the resolution was will help everyone.
