Squealing from back of motor Volvo 3.0

Have a Volvo Penta 3.0 , motor runs great , but at about 3900 rpms and up have a squeal from the back of the motor or from the out drive or something, which becomes even worst if I use my trim while driving, also when I started my boat Saturday morning after it sat for a week. It made the same squeal noise and I went to look at the motor and noticed belts were not moving nor were the pulleys ! That's what confirmed it was definitely not a belt squeal and the noise/issue is behind the motor. Any opions or thoughts definitely appreciated

Welcome aboard.

The motor was running and the belts weren't moving? Was the crankshaft pulley turning?

if the motor is running and the belts not turning, you have serious problems

if that is the case, either your alternator is shot and the belt is too loose, or your alternator is shot and you long since smoked and glazed the belt

pull the belt and I bet your alternator bearings have long ago departed

When I wentback to the motor nothing was moving and then like 5 seconds later. Everything started moving like normal and the squeal stopped. But i get it on the water and I get the squeal at high Rpms and using the trim at high rpms makes the squeal even louder. One I first saw the no belt movement. I took all belts off and made sure my pulleys were not frozen. Put new belts on . It's really weird it sound like a really loud belt squeal. But I can tell it's coming from the rear of the motor

Loosen or remove the belts and see if the crank pulley has any wiggle. Possibly the dampening rubber has died to keep the belts from turning. Usually the pulley walks off and doesn't start working because the belts fall off as well.

The other possibility is a broken crank snout, but a failed or failing pulley is more likely.

Checked for a wiggle , everything seems spin and spinning freely. Started it up and let it run. In gear and out of gear. And only time I can get it to squeal is in gear. Almost sound like it's coming from the bell housing of the motor. Idk know if this helps either. But I had just me and one other person in the boat Saturday and it didn't squeal until about 4200 rpms. Had 4 people in the boat Sunday and the squeal started at about 3700. So I guess the more is working the more sensitive it is. I'm just baffled. Lol
