Re: squirrel recipe

I like to quarter them, roll them in a milk/egg batter and flour, and fry them. I love fried squirrel.

Re: squirrel recipe

are they a litte tough? or stringy. i thought that was why mom always made a stew so she cook the meat slower and longer to tenderize. actually that is kind of what i was looking for something that would leave the meat on its own instead of in a gravy with a bunch of veggies. fried or some kind of baked.

Go to wally world in the sporting dept and pick up a copy of " dressing and cooking wild game" by The hunting and fishing library. It has all kinds of wild game recipes in it. I bought my cousin this book for Christmas one year and he makes one of the squirrel dishes quite often. It also has well detailed directions on butchering all kinds of game.

You and my cat would get along well as she thinks they are pretty tastey also! :D <br /><br />I'm pretty sure I've ate them as a kid. Any family that would go Bull Frog hunting on a Saturday night then fry up the legs for dinner N beer had to have been squirrel hunting also!<br />Grandmother was pretty cool about it though, she always left a couple of the legs un-snipped so they would hop around in the frying pan for us kids to watch! :) <br /><br />FSHKPR you would be in 7th heaven around here! After reading your post I saw 4 in my back yard, and at least 6 more driving over to my MILs house!<br />btw I quit feeding them almost two years ago when our cat adopted us. And I live in a city!<br /><br />Hmmm wonder if there might be a bounty on them :D :D

well i like to feed them too. thats why there is no shooting at my place. i like to watch them, they are entertaining. i have a few different toys for them. the most entertaining one is like a propeller with a cob of corn on each end.

"are they a litte tough? or stringy."<br /><br />Yes, they are a little both. I don't mind it and my kids just tear into them. Bones are smaller than a chicken, so you have to be careful with younger kids. I also like to fry them and then take the meat and make squirrel salad (like chicken salad) for sandwiches. A litte mayo and relish and mix it good. This is making me hungry.

Re: squirrel recipe

I used to take and cut the meat off of the bones and fry it. I called it squirrel Mcnuggets. Makes the tougher ones easier to eat since you dont have to pull the meat off of the bones with your teeth.<br /><br />Here is an example of an older tough squirrel:<br /><br /><br />
