I just recieved my slightly used 'Ebay prop today, it an 18 pitch turbo brand, it looks like new with only one little ding in the leading edge, anyhow the tips of this prop will cut your finger if your not careful with it razor sharp, is this typical for a ss turbo prop? or has someone modified it, although it sure looks factory. This is my first SS prop what a difference in weight!
I was running a 19 aluminum and wot was on the low end with light load, I went to the 18 SS hoping to gain a few hundred R's. I'll post the results in a couple days if anyones interested.

Re: SS prop supposed razor sharp!?

The blades are not supposed to be razor sharp. Some people have the blades thinned and sharpened because they feel it improves performance. A thin blade may or may not be more efficient but it will certianly wear out faster.

We'll assume it's a 4 blade for the moment but they should have fairly decent blades as far as thickness goes. As the prop wears after going thru a lot of sand the leading edges will get sharp as the metal is worn away.

At any rate, don't expect the test results to be typical of a Turbo prop. It's probably not "as produced".

I sure hope thats not the case, It's a 3 blade prop and the leading edges seem thick and not so sharp, it's just the very tips of the blades that are lethal about 1" or so around the radius, sharp like my pocket knife.

Hummmm... That might mean it lost the tip cup. The best thing to do is try it and see how it works.
