SS Props on Inflatables

Someone stated that by swapping a 15 HP factory 9" pitch alum prop for same pitch SS Solas has gained more RPM and engine runs much smoother. Probably is not using a induction tach on that small 15 HP engine to confirm that. On the other hand Solas states that SS props should be used on boats at speeds over 50 Knots. That 15 HP at the most will only be doing 22 Knots max. Does this makes sense or it's just baloney ?

Re: SS Props on Inflatables

I think the amount of improvement would depend on the age and condition of the al prop.
Also would depend on the brand of motor and style of boat.
Usually a ss prop will outperform an al prop but how much at about double the cost.
I think Solas is refering to expensive ss props regarding speed.there is no doubt
a ss prop can improve performance over an al prop, but how much.
I think you may notice the performance description of all props is a little vague with statements like improved hole shot, bow lift, stern lift, speed, durability seldom any concrete numbers other than cost.
The Solas al props are state of the art process and may outperform standard factory al props
though I believe some motors use Solas as original equipment.

Re: SS Props on Inflatables

Both are new same pitch props, alum and SS runing on a 2 strokes 15 HP new outboard placed on a 320 sib. Solas SS costs 2.5 times more than same alum prop so a waist of money if going blindly for same SS prop without a tach to see if at least reaching sweet middle 5500 at wot (5000-6000) with factory alum prop. Then deciding if under proped and going for a less pitch SS prop. Standard factory delivered props usually give middle or slight passing middle rpm at wot, so really no need to play with pitch.
