Stainless selection

My motor is a Yamaha Pro V 150 I had a aluminum prop on that was a 14 1/4 x 21p and it would rev out at 4900 rpm and go 39 Mph. The motor is made to rev a 5500 rpm max. My Yamaha dealer sold me a stainless prop that is 14 1/4 x 19p. I tried it out today and now I get 4500 rpm and 38 Mph. Its stilll not the right one. First of all I hope he will exchange and secondly how far down should I go to get my revs maxxed? 17p?

There are some other considerations. Have you adjusted the engine position in attempts to get maximum performance from what you have? Will it raise up further with out excessive venting or loss of water pressure? Is the hull in great shape? Based on the limited information you have so far a 17 pitch would seem to be a good bet, but read the sticky at the top of the prop section before going further. Some more knowledge can shorten the process. Lots of luck and happy boating.
