stainless steel prop question

i needed a new prop, so i decided to double my cost and go stainless. iboats delivered a nice michigan wheel match 15x17. almost hurt myself pulling it out of the box. i never expected it to be so heavy. and the blades didn't seem to be any thinner than my aluminum (maybe thicker).

my questions- will this extra weight change my performance? won't my engine have to work harder to get this new prop spinning fwd and rev? isn't one of the reasons a ss is faster than aluminum because the blades can be thinner (ss stronger) and hence cut into the water cleaner equalling less slip?

i could be way off. with the recent weather and my longer days rebuilding the naval academy, haven't had time to slap it on and go for a spin yet.

SS performs better becuase they hardly flex at all at high rpm under load - they keep their shape.

Matt,
I, too, changed from aluminum to ss this year and didn't know what to expect. And yes, it was a lot heavier than the alum. The first thing I noticed was better hole-shot. Then I came on plane quicker, could trim up a heck of a lot higher (less boat in the water at higher speed), and decreased rpm's & better speed. And I haven't verified it, but I swear I'm getting better mpg's, too.
Slap that baby on & get it wet! I think you'll be impressed.
Sorry, but I can't guess at the coefficients and techno-garbage to answer your questions, though.
Brian

ralph- i knew about the less flex aspect of ss. just thought the thinner blades also played a part. must have been wrong.

brian- thanks for the feedback. i hope it performs as expected, and i hope i don't have to screw around with size again now that i have stainless.

should get out this weekend. first time since izzy left us, she better not have a sister.
